In the middle of a legal debate...

Is this illegal?
I really need to know so I can delete it before Wade goes apeshit. I personally think the tutorial is legal, and you can see my argument in my description. I actually think that, in a way, I am opening up the eyes of the NG admins to a threat that should have some sort of protection developed against it in the near future. I do understand that downloading .swfs from NG is illegal, but I don't think making a tutorial about it is. It shouldn't be anyway. It's like making a tutorial on how to stab someone in the face. The action it enlights the viewer upon is illegal, but the tutorial itself will be well within it's rights to stay on the web. Thats my side of the argument anyway.

Comments

It is NOT illegal. Don't know where y'all got THAT from. Hell, I've downloaded my own .swf's off of Newgrounds when I lost the originals.

It IS, however, a prickish thing to do without the explicit approval of the author. Also, seeing as downloading it prevents Newgrounds from getting a hit and the associated ad money that keeps it running, there's no reason anyone with a stable internet connection should want to. No reason at all to not simply watch it online, or to just link a friend to it so Newgrounds gets the hit.

So yeah, in terms of legality, it's about as illegal as using an adblocker (as in, not at all). However, Wade also doesn't like anyone talking about how to block ads (and he once wrongly claimed that it could be illegal before realizing his mistake and declaring discussing it a bannable offense), so he might delete the flash anyway if it's brought to his attention.

Thanks

Regardless. If you think it is wrong and should be brought to the attention of someone who can do something about it it is probably best not to blatantly stuff it into the portal. Otherwise everyone who sees it come through the portal will then know how to take advantage of it before the problem is fixed. That is what I think.

Have a nice day.
